Trezor.io/Start® | Starting Up Your Device | Trezor®

Trezor.io/Start is the official starting point for setting up your Trezor hardware wallet, a secure device for managing cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and more. Developed by SatoshiLabs, Trezor wallets provide offline storage (cold storage), keeping your digital assets safe from hackers and malware.

Step 1: Visit the Official Website

Begin by visiting the official setup page at https://trezor.io/start. It is essential to ensure that you are on the correct site to avoid phishing attacks. Look for the padlock symbol in the browser address bar and verify the domain spelling.

Step 2: Choose Your Device

On the Trezor Start page, select your device model: either the Trezor Model T (the advanced touchscreen version) or the Trezor One (the original model). Each device has a slightly different interface, but both follow the same core setup principles.

Step 3: Install Trezor Suite

Next, you’ll be prompted to download Trezor Suite, the official desktop application used to interact with your Trezor device. Trezor Suite is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and provides a secure and user-friendly interface for managing your crypto assets.

Step 4: Connect Your Device

Plug your Trezor device into your computer via USB. Open Trezor Suite and follow the on-screen prompts. If your device is brand new, you’ll likely be asked to install the latest firmware. Always verify the firmware fingerprint displayed on your Trezor screen to ensure authenticity.

Step 5: Create or Recover a Wallet

Once the firmware is installed, you’ll have the option to either create a new wallet or recover an existing one using a recovery seed. For new users, choose “Create new wallet.” If restoring an existing wallet, select “Recover wallet” and enter your seed phrase using the device interface.

Step 6: Backup Your Recovery Seed

After creating a new wallet, your Trezor will generate a 12- or 24-word recovery seed. This is your backup key to recover funds if your device is lost or damaged. Write it down on paper only, never store it digitally or online. Trezor will prompt you to confirm some of the words to ensure you've recorded them correctly.

Step 7: Set Up a PIN

To add another layer of security, you'll be asked to set a PIN code. This PIN protects the device from unauthorized access. Choose a PIN that is hard to guess but easy for you to remember.

Step 8: Start Using Your Wallet

You’re now ready to use your Trezor device! Within Trezor Suite, you can send and receive crypto, track your portfolio, and explore decentralized finance (DeFi) tools with added protection.

Security Reminder

Never share your recovery seed or PIN with anyone. Trezor staff will never ask for them. Keep your seed phrase in a secure, offline location.
